Start with a written plan

Before installation day, confirm the rooms included, the chosen product and who is responsible for each preparation task. Do not assume furniture moving, disposal, appliance handling or repainting is included. A short checklist agreed in advance can prevent confusion when the work begins.

Ask when material will arrive and where it should be stored. Follow the product-specific instructions for conditioning and storage rather than moving boxes between the garage and the room without guidance.

Clear the working areas

Remove small furniture, breakables, loose rugs, toys and items stored on the floor. Empty furniture that will be moved and identify anything particularly heavy or delicate. Discuss larger pieces in advance so there is a clear handling plan.

Protect access to everyday essentials. If several rooms are involved, set aside the items you will need and consider where family members and pets will spend time while the work takes place.

Plan access and building arrangements

Tell The Six Flooring & Co about parking restrictions, stairs, narrow entrances and delivery limitations. In a condo, confirm the building’s approval process, permitted work hours and elevator arrangements before scheduling deliveries. Share the building’s instructions so the project can be planned around them.

Keep the route between the entrance and work area clear. Ask where cutting and waste collection are planned, and agree what protection and cleanup are included. No renovation should be described as completely dust-free without a specific basis for that claim.

Confirm the edges of the job

Walk through doorways, closets, stairs and transitions together. Decide which baseboards or trims are staying and which are being replaced. Identify any paint touch-ups or related work that will remain after installation.

If appliances or fixtures need to move, agree who will handle them and any connections. These tasks can have different requirements from laying a floor and should not be left to assumptions on the day.

Before bringing the room back into use

Ask for the selected system’s instructions on walking on the floor, returning furniture and cleaning. Adhesives, grout and finishing materials can have product-specific waiting periods. The calendar alone is not a substitute for those instructions.

  • Keep the product name and warranty documents.
  • Record the agreed care guidance.
  • Discuss spare material and where to store it.
  • Walk through the finished work and note any outstanding items.
  • Confirm the contact for follow-up questions.

One useful next step

Send us a few photographs before your consultation, including the room entrances and adjoining floors. They help start a practical conversation about access, preparation and what the finished space should look like.
